A rare, early Guatemalan mask representing Tecun Uman. Tecun Uman was one of the last rulers of the K'iche' Maya people, in the Highlands of what is now Guatemala. According to the Kaqchikel annals, he was slain by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado.

The mask is finely carved and includes a pair of quetzal birds, Tecun Uman's spirit animal, framing the face. The mask retains the original polychrome surface, missing one glass eye.
